APA of Greater Albany Shows Overwhelming Support for Division Rep’s Family

When Division Representative David “Frosty” Wallace passed away this year, fellow APA of Greater Albany members knew it wasn’t just going to be tough on his family emotionally, but financially as well.  With the assistance of APA of Greater Albany League Operator Matt MacPhail, the League came together for two separate events to raise money and help support his family through tough times.

The first event took place on Jan. 16 at Wallace’s Host Location, Golden Cue Billiards in Albany, N.Y.  Tom Acciavatti won the 8-Ball Singles tournament that included 40 participants.  Calvin McMillan finished in 2nd Place.  Everyone who donated received a commemorative medal.

The second event featured a series of Mini Tournaments, DJ and raffles.  It was sponsored by Diamond Eight Billiards in Latham, N.Y., and held on Jan. 22.  Combined, both events drew over 70 people and raised $2,000 for the Wallace family.

“Frosty was the perfect example of an APA League member,” said MacPhail.  “He loved the game of pool and was a proud supporter of the APA.  He created a number of teams called Quick Sticks, and made it to the Local Team Championships the last two years.”

Mohawk Valley APA Helps Local Diner Break World’s Largest Omelet Record

On July 10, Mohawk Valley APA helped Scott and Kim Tranter—owners of Empire Diner in Herkimer, N.Y.—raise money for local charities by building the World’s Largest Omelet.  It was no coincidence that the omelet looked like a giant pool table.

Volunteers spent several hours cooking eggs dyed with green food coloring and placing them on a large platform in front of the diner.  Donations were accepted in exchange for the opportunity to hit billiard-themed beach balls with an 18-foot cue stick into pockets made out of trash cans.  The event raised $12,000 in food and $10,000 in cash for local food banks.

It took 45,000 eggs, 200 pounds of cheese, 150 gallons of milk and 120 pounds of butter to make the 2,200 square foot omelet, which broke the record set by the Tranter’s back in 2002.  “Ripley’s Believe It or Not” has even agreed to feature the record breaking omelet in a future edition.

So, how many people did it take to eat the World’s Largest Omelet?  The answer will remain unknown, since the giant omelet was donated to local pig farmers to be used as feed.
